About
...It's taken me awhile to write up this page, mostly because while I think up, plan, draw and publish the comics, I still can't figure out what BAP is about, and I've been working on this comic since at least 2003, a year before the 'first' comic was published.
History
The first thing I planned BAP out to be way way back in 2002/2003, was a fansite dedicated to my three favorite anime characters at the time, Bakura from Yuugiou, Android (Artificial Human) #17 from DragonBall Z, and Maximillion Pegasus also from Yuugiou. I felt these characters were under appreciated (except Bakura, he had a big enough fanbase) and deserved a fansite of their own to showcase all the great things about the characters. I'd host screenshots, fanart, fanfiction, and post up some funny comics about my alias (myself at the time) KirbyGurl interacting with the characters and getting roped in to 'hilarious situations' with them.
Well, that eventually fizzled out. Everyone with a favorite character and some kind of know how with a HTML editor had a fansite. So that got scrapped.
One thing I did like about the original idea was the comics surrounding KayGee and her favorite characters. (Please note at the time I wasn't aware what a 'Mary Sue' was or how it draws angry elitists in droves to complain about how one 'ruins the integrity of a story' and so on and so forth. I'll get into this in a later paragraph) So with enthusiastic ambition on my side, I set to work writing a story for BAP.
But, how does one write a story revolving around characters who in no way have ever interacted with one another and probably wouldn't ever if it wasn't for the third party of the fan character getting involved?
You don't, at least not a good one anyway.
And this is where things get confusing. There is no real reason why Pegasus and Otto Octavius (the movie version) are interacting with each other in the first few comics. A story was never made so these two are just interacting by happenstance even though they are from two separate 'worlds'. Why is it happening? A couple of fan characters are interacting with canon characters too? There are no boundaries and the fourth wall is completely shattered! Everything is upside down and out of place and nothing makes sense!
And from there I kind of just rolled with it.
Plot/Reason
Plot? There is no plot. For seriously.
If you want to think of it in terms of plot, I can always make up something off the top of my head, explaining why a fan character is interacting with canon characters from different worlds with no remorse to the storyline of their lives, but really it ends up boiling down to 'I do it because I can, and because I enjoy doing it.'
It may seem self indulgent to just throw a version of myself into someone else's story just so she can pal around with a character I deem as a favorite. And yeah, I would get flack for creating another Mary Sue in a sea of look alike characters that want to be best friends forever with the main spiky haired hero with goggles. And I suppose one would argue with me that this is wrong could be justified.
But I would keep making comics anyway. As far as messing around with canon storylines, KayGee could do a lot worse.
I've been told by a friend and co-worker of this project that there is some kind of 'story' that revolves around some friends hanging around in Pegasus' giant castle mansion in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that get roped into wacky shenanigans. She is right though, because there are a few mini stories that revolve around the plotless plot of this comic. Such as 'Policy' where a Comic Demon of sorts explains to KayGee that there are several topics a webcomic must go through as a means of 'protocol' (Fourth wall shatters, another paradox) or 'Beach' where the crew of frequent characters take their hi-jinks to the beach.
But once again, when you shed off all the explanations, the reason behind this site and the comics comes down to 'I do it because I can.' :]
KayGee/KirbyGurl/KG/ and 'World Crossing/Plot Hole Hopping'
I like to think that at one point, KayGee was me. Optimistic, bouncy, fun. But really, I haven't been those things. The real me is a shy, quiet, follower where KG is a bold, happy, take the wheel and lead kind of character. She's everything I wish I could be. She had all the traits of a classic 'Mary Sue' back in the day; now a days she's been toned down quite a bit. She's not messing around with plots so much as she is in the background interacting with characters in times where it doesn't hurt the story. Those characters usually end up being my favorites too. How about that?
Let's try an example out.
KG might spend some time in the 'Dragonworld' of DBZ with 17 during the part of the story where he lives in a log cabin in the middle of the woods. For everyone who isn't familiar with the story, a big angry abomination of science uses 17 and his sister 18 for his own needs, and they are pretty much dead (for the most part). The villian gets killed, and everyone he killed is brought back to life, including the androids. 18 becomes a part of the main cast sorta, but 17 is freaking gone. The last time you see him is in the last handful (last bit of manga too I believe?) of episodes for a cameo living somewhere in a log cabin in the woods, but this is enough to assure us that the bastard is alive (Yay!).
Now, in the time frame between his last appearance and his cameo is somewhere about a few years. There is a time jump. What happened during these handful of years to 17? Ah HA! This is subject to debate, and a perfect place for a fan character to interact while not harming the original story.
'But that's cheating!' No, it's a plot hole. :]
I can't fix the beginning comics where everyone is thrown together to do funny things, but I'm taking this frame of mind for future stories that lets KG hang around with canon characters without completely butchering their worlds and stories.
Yes, I know it's still 'not canon', I know it's not 'right'. But as far as I'm concerned, if fans are going to pair two obviously heterosexual men together that would never go anywhere near stepping onto first base, I think I can at least have KG spend the afternoon with a side character. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Real Life Scenarios
From the start of the comic, I've incorporated events that have happened to me in real life but tweaked them and played around with them to fit the comic. The characters Mr. D and Mr. W are examples of this; they were based off two teachers I had back in high school. My chemistry teacher enjoyed doing 'demos' at the beginning of class that some would occasionally explode or make a pretty flame that resulted in 'Oooh', 'Aaaah' and one I particularly remember 'I think I singed off my eyebrow' that were the inspiration for Mr. W in the comics. My math teacher was unfortunately the direct opposite. He was the nicest guy, but I would do so bad in math that the portrayal here made it seem like KG was out for blood for the poor mishap. Yes he did take off 5 points off my quiz because I didn't put arrows on my line graph, but I didn't attack him in a violent rage (or at least, I didn't try XD).
More so now I'm taking direct scenarios from real life and posting them here, but no real change occurs, mostly because I lose the effect of the event if I change the characters around. That's why you see real life me and now Robbie, my significant other, in comics. The way we would handle a situation might not be the same as how other characters would handle it, so I don't bother changing things around.
I'M STILL WORKING ON THIS.
